About the Foundation
Dr. Towell instructed that the major objectives of the Molly Towell Perinatal Research Foundation were:
- To provide start-up operating funds to assist in research and education in the field of fetal and neonatal medicine
- To provide funding of graduate and undergraduate fellowships for students in the field of fetal and neonatal medicine
Since the establishment of the
MTPRF in 1988, the Foundation Board trustees have been Molly's long
time colleagues and friends Dr. Sam Bessman (Los Angeles), Dr. Claire
Dupont (Montreal) and Mrs. Jane Bryans (Vancouver).
Over the past 18 years, funds
have been provided to support operating and equipment costs for
research projects in several Canadian universities. The Foundation also
has provided stipends for students and fellows for graduate and
post-doctoral studies at universities in Canada and the United States.
In addition, the Foundation has supported local, national and
international conferences. In particular, the annual Western Perinatal
Research Meeting in Banff and the Eastern Perinatal Investigators'
Meeting in Kingston have been major recipients.
In 2007, The MTPRF created a
formal link with the Association of Professors of Obstetrics and
Gynaecology of Canada by adding two members of the Association to the
MTPRF Board and by consolidating administrative support within the
Association's administrative offices in Ottawa. Through this linkage,
the MTPRF hopes to broaden its reach to perinatal investigators in
Canada and to streamline its application and peer review processes.
The current members of the MTPRF Board include:
Dr. Peter Mitchell (President)
Dr. Alan Bocking (Vice-President)
Mrs. Jane Bryans (Secretary-Treasurer)
Dr. Margaret Morris (Director)
Mr. Brian Phillips (Director)
Ms. Christine Ens (Executive Assistant)
Ms. Bianca Nadeau (APOG Head Office Liaison)
