BACKGROUNDER
The Association of Professors of Obstetrics & Gynaecology of Canada (APOG) is a professional non-profit association thatprovides leadership in the development and promotion of the highest quality clinical care through education & research in academic programs of obstetrics and gynaecology in APOG began with informal meetings of university department heads of obstetrics and gynaecology in the late 60's. These meetings led to an agreement to consider the formation of a continuing forum for an expanded group of academic leaders to consider common problems. A planning meeting was held in 1971 and the first formal APOG meeting followed in 1972. Federal incorporation and the first statement of constitution and bylaws were in 1975. Our organization brings together professors of obstetrics and gynaecology from all sixteen Canadian medical universities involved in both pre and post-doctoral education and continuous medical education. It provides a forum for communication and discussion, collaboration, problem-solving, and policy development.
In addition to our standing committees, APOG holds two meetings of the membership per year. The Mid Year Meetings occur in June during the SOGC ACM and the Annual General Meeting takes place in the November – December timeframe in Toronto. The AGM includes several skill enhancing courses, an abstract program to showcase educational research, national awards for outstanding achievement, and timely informative sessions to assist the academic community. |
